About Michael

Writer. Storyteller. Space Historian.

Michael Patrick O'Hara is an author, screenwriter, creator, and space historian whose work explores technology, history, artificial intelligence, space exploration, human behavior—and occasionally a highly organized group of squirrels protecting life, liberty, and nuts.

His creative work ranges from speculative fiction and screenplays to historical writing, leadership nonfiction, photography, and original character-driven media concepts.

A lifelong fascination with the space program, science fiction, history, and the question “What if?” has shaped much of his writing. His fiction often explores what happens when technology moves faster than humanity's ability to understand its consequences, while his historical work examines the decisions, risks, failures, and extraordinary people behind some of the most important moments in space exploration.

Before devoting more of his time to writing and creative projects, Michael spent 31 years in the financial services industry, including extensive experience in leadership and organizational management. He holds a B.S. in Aerospace and also studied Business Management at Johns Hopkins University. That combination of technical curiosity, leadership experience, and fascination with complex systems continues to influence both his fiction and nonfiction.

Michael is also the creator of Squirrel Team Six, an original comedy and character universe built around a remarkably serious squirrel organization operating in a remarkably unserious backyard world. The project has grown into Squirrel Team Six Media, with an expanding cast of characters, stories, artwork, and concepts developed for digital media and other forms of entertainment.

Through The Conquest of Space, he researches and writes about space history, forgotten missions, close calls, engineering decisions, abandoned spacecraft, and moments when history almost turned out differently.

Across all of these projects runs the same curiosity: how people respond to uncertainty, how systems succeed or fail, how technology changes us—and how a single idea can sometimes become an entirely new world.

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Michael now calls Charlotte, North Carolina home. When he isn't writing or researching, his interests include photography, space exploration, and spending time with his German Shepherds.
